Roundabout Construction Updates

Update as of: September 9, 2026

VDOT's construction is underway on a new roundabout at the intersection of Wards Ferry Road, CVCC Campus Drive, and Harvard Street. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and safety for drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Construction is expected to be complete towards the end of 2027. CVCC will remain open throughout the project. Students, employees, and visitors should allow additional travel time and check this page for updates before traveling to campus.

Current Construction Update

Temporary lane closures and one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers are scheduled daily through Friday, September 18, on Wards Ferry Road. Flagging operations may also occur on Campus Drive.

During this period, crews will be completing:

  • Storm sewer pipe installation along Wards Ferry Road
  • Embankment fill along Campus Drive and Wards Ferry Road
  • Water line installation

Drivers should expect possible delays, use caution near the construction area, and follow directions from traffic-control personnel. Whenever possible, use the U.S. 29 Business/Wards Road entrance to access campus and help reduce congestion near the work zone.

CVCC will provide additional updates if construction significantly affects campus access or traffic flow.

Traffic Patterns

Traffic patterns near the Wards Ferry Road entrance may change throughout construction. Drivers should:

  • Follow all posted signs and directions from traffic-control personnel
  • Reduce speed when traveling through the construction area
  • Allot additional time when traveling to campus
  • Use an alternate route when recommended

CVCC will share advance notice of significant lane closures, detours, or entrance restrictions.

Campus Access

CVCC will remain accessible throughout construction. The campus can be accessed from:

  • Wards Ferry Road entrance
  • US 29 Business/Wards Road entrance

Drivers are encouraged to use the U.S. 29 Business/Wards Road entrance whenever possible during active construction.

Parking

Campus parking lots will remain open and accessible during construction. Some parking areas or access routes may be temporarily affected as construction progresses. Any parking changes will be communicated in advance and posted on this page.
