CVCC Student Madison Schall expresses her thanks to the Educational Foundation:
"If it wasn't for you guys, I don't know where I'd be. I am forever grateful."
Each year, hundreds of local donors choose to make a difference in the lives of CVCC students who would not be able to attend college without scholarship support. For many of our students, CVCC is their best hope and their last chance to learn the skills that will lead to a degree or certificate and propel them toward a new job and an improved life.
The CVCC Educational Foundation was established in 1981 and is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization founded to foster and promote the growth, progress and general welfare of Central Virginia Community College by raising funds, increasing visibility and building community partnerships. The Educational Foundation supports the goals and mission of CVCC by providing funding assistance for student scholarships, instructional equipment purchases, and faculty and staff development opportunities, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders from the localities served by the College.
Each year, competing demands for limited state revenue means that state funding for Virginia's community colleges remains under pressure and covers a smaller percentage of overall college expenses. At CVCC, state funding comprises less than 50% of the overall budget, and makes it more critical than ever that we develop support from alumni, local citizens, foundations, employers and municipalities to ensure that all of our citizens can have access to affordable education and training.
