Want your plants to not just survive but thrive?? That starts with a good soil/media and knowing how to improve what we already have. In this workshop you will learn about our native soils in this area; the good and bad about them and how to amend them. We will talk compost; how to start one, how to maintain one, and how to use the product once you make it. We will also discuss worm farming; using composting worms (vermiculture) to make use of vegetable scraps and cardboards found around the house. Worms produce “black gold” that can be very beneficial for your plants. We will also go through the different types of fertilizer options, how to know exactly what you are getting and how and when to apply them. We will troubleshoot various nutrient deficiencies and how to amend them. This workshop will have a hands-on component where we will learn how to mix our potting media and each ingredient’s purpose within the mixture. Each student will each get to take home some of the mixture you create, as well as a tropical houseplant, to try it on!
This class meets on CVCC Main Campus, Merritt Hall. The cost is $29 includes tuition and materials.
