LYNCHBURG, VA — Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) has announced that Gary E. Harvey, R.A., President and Managing Principal of Architectural Partners, will serve as the Commencement Speaker for its 58th graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., at the Liberty University Vines Center.
Harvey is a respected architect and community leader with more than three decades of experience shaping buildings and spaces across the region. As President and Managing Principal of Architectural Partners, he has played a key role in the firm’s growth while leading projects for educational, municipal, and commercial clients. Known for his collaborative leadership style and attention to client needs, Harvey guides projects from initial design through construction, ensuring each reflects both functional excellence and the character of the surrounding community. His work focuses heavily on educational facilities and civic institutions, with a particular passion for historic preservation and adaptive reuse, including three terms on the City of Lynchburg Historic Preservation Commission.
A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Harvey earned his Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in History after beginning his academic journey at Central Virginia Community College. Beyond his professional work, Harvey remains deeply engaged in the Lynchburg community through his service on the Lynchburg City School Board, support of the Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation and Partners in Education program, advocacy for Career and Technical Education, leadership in Scouting America, and his role as President of the Board of Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship, supporting affordable housing initiatives.

Harvey earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and began his academic journey at Central Virginia Community College. His leadership reflects a strong belief in investing in people and places to build thriving communities.
