Lynchburg – Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) recently collaborated with the Lynchburg Fire Department to map and register Automated External Defibrillator (AED) locations across campus through the nationwide PulsePoint AED platform. This initiative represents a continued advancement of the college’s commitment to campus safety, emergency preparedness, and the well-being of the broader community.
As part of the initiative, members of the Lynchburg Fire Department visited CVCC to identify and document the locations of AED stations throughout campus buildings. Those devices were then added to PulsePoint’s National Emergency AED Registry, helping make critical lifesaving equipment easier to locate during emergencies.
AEDs are portable medical devices designed to help restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. Through the PulsePoint app, emergency responders, 911 dispatchers, and community members can quickly locate nearby AEDs when every second matters.
“In an emergency, having quick access to an AED can make a critical difference,” said Jeff Sydenstricker, Chief of Police and Director of Campus Safety at Central Virginia Community College. “By adding AED locations across campus to the PulsePoint registry, we’re helping make those devices easier to locate and improving emergency preparedness for our students, employees, and visitors. We appreciate the Lynchburg Fire Department for assisting with this important initiative.”
The collaboration reflects CVCC’s ongoing commitment to campus safety and community partnership. By participating in the PulsePoint AED registry, the college is helping improve emergency preparedness not only for students, faculty, and staff, but also for visitors and the surrounding community.
