A Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an integral part of the reaccreditation process for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) member institutions. The QEP is a 5-year plan developed from (a) the college’s evaluation and planning processes, (b) involving a broad base of key stakeholders, (c) including goals related to specific student success and/or learning outcomes, (d) committing resources to successfully implement and complete the plan, and (e) including a plan to assess achievement.
To increase the success of students as they pursue their educational goals.
Students will successfully complete gateway mathematics within their first year of enrollment.
- Increase the percentage of program-placed first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who enroll in gateway mathematics in their first year at CVCC by at least 5% annually from 43% to 55% in fall 2028.
- For the program-placed FTIC students who enroll in gateway mathematics, increase the percentage who successfully complete by at least 3% annually from 71% to 82% in fall 2028.
- Increase the percentage of program-placed FTIC students who enroll in and successfully complete gateway mathematics in their first year at CVCC by at least 8% annually from 31% to 46% in fall 2028.
- Students will demonstrate academic self-efficacy and math readiness.
- Students will practice common skills and habits that lead to success in gateway math.
- Students will access support services.
- Students will be academically engaged.
- Students will use active and collaborative learning strategies.
Solving for Success empowers students to successfully complete their required gateway mathematics course during their first year of enrollment. The proposed strategies and interventions provide students with a "roadmap" to success - a resource outlining the academic support resources available to them.
As the QEP is implemented, the College will:
- Provide professional development for faculty and staff around advising, teaching and learning, and academic support services
- Introduce new academic support opportunities for students such as study skills modules, co-requisite mini-semesters, online prep courses, and summer in-person boot camps
- Collect regular feedback from students on their receptivity to support services and their overall sense of academic engagement
- Actively advise and provide interventions for students throughout their journey towards gateway math completion
Solving for Success includes a plan to assess achievement with outcomes that are specific, measurable, and directly related to student success. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning (OIESP) will incorporate QEP assessment into the annual departmental planning process.
As CVCC engages with multiple tools for data collection, the impact of specific strategies will be measured at the student level. For example, to measure the impact of individual initiatives, like the addition of a summer boot camp, the progress of that sub-set of students will be measured against the general cohort population (non-bootcamp participants) or other populations.
ROADMAP TO SUCCESS
Along their journey to success, students receive regular guidance and feedback from their care network. The care network is comprised of college navigators, advisors, math faculty, and tutoring support professionals who are all working together to ensure every student receives the right resources and timely interventions to achieve their goals in gateway math.
