Central Virginia Community College will host the 2025 District One Virginia History Day Program on Saturday, March 29.
History Day is a history competition for students in grades four through twelve.
It is conducted at district and state levels in conjunction with the National History Day program. CVCC is the host institution for District One, which includes the following areas: Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Cumberland, Danville, Lynchburg, and Pittsylvania.
Please register your student projects by March 17, 2025.

The theme of this year’s event is “Turning Points in History.”
Students in grades 4-5 are assigned to the Elementary Division. They are limited to the exhibit category only. They can participate as either an individual or as a group, and they do not need to annotate their bibliographies. All the other rules and requirements for an exhibit entry apply, including word count, size, and the process paper. Students in grades 6-8 are assigned to the junior division, students in grades 9-12 are assigned to the senior division.
In each division, individual students may compete as in any one of the following categories, or in a group of 2 to 5 students:
- Individual Documentary
- Group Documentary
- Individual Exhibit
- Group Exhibit
- Individual Historical Paper
- Individual Performance
- Group Performance
- Individual Web sites
- Group Website
Winners will be announced at the end of the event. The two best entries in each category and age division qualify for the State contest. Additional information can be found here.
History Day enhances critical thinking skills and encourages civic responsibility. It inspires students through exciting competitions and transforms teaching through project-based instruction.
