CVCC's second annual Workforce Conversation
Merritt Hall Multipurpose Room, CVCC Campus 3506 Wards Rd. Lynchburg, VA 24502.

This year's focus is Communication and Expectations

Nationwide, employers consistently rank soft skills as the top deficiency of new workers. In fact, of the top 10 employability skills desired by manufacturing employers in a nationwide survey, 8 are in the "soft skills" category (Job Outlook 2021 – National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)). The biggest problems in communication and expectations seem to arise between the youngest workers (Gen Z) and those close to retirement (the Boomers). We hope to dispel myths, translate between the generations, and provide perspectives from both ends of the generations of workers that keep our city and nation running.

We will have a social media all-star lineup!

  • Zach Oxendine is returning to inspire us again. He works in technical roles at Microsoft and engineering in the Air Force reserves. He builds opportunities to empower people everywhere in STEM. His work in indigenous, rural, veteran, deaf/hard of hearing, and education communities know no limits because they are all a part of who he is.
  • Meghan Ziemba, of the Mavens of Manufacturing and advocate for women in automation, has a variety of leadership and management skills including agile project management, event coordination, community outreach, strategic connections, public relations, and content marketing planning and execution.
  • Tim & Amber Wilborne of Be a Better Technician are Industrial Automation YouTubers that help manufacturing technicians increase their skills so that they will always be in demand.
