Information About the Student Support Fund

Attention CVCC Students:

CVCC cares about its students and understands the many challenges you may face. For information on various resources, please visit our Community Connections webpage. Additionally, CVCC offers a Student Support Fund for eligible students. The purpose, conditions, and qualifications are detailed below.

Purpose

The Central Virginia Community College Student Support Fund supports CVCC students experiencing significant financial hardship that could affect their enrollment. Types of emergencies considered include, but are not limited to, house fires, medical emergencies, and assistance with temporary housing for displaced students. Mental health concerns are evaluated by the Student Accessibility Coordinator, Community Connections Coordinator, or the Dean of Student Services, and are referred directly to the Foundation Office after assessment, bypassing the Student Support Fund Committee. The Threat Assessment Team may also access mental health funding if a mental health assessment is needed to determine a student's ability to remain on campus. Mental health funds are only available to students without insurance.

Conditions

  1. Funds are not available for tuition or books.
  2. Payments will be made directly to the company or business owed, or in the form of gift cards.
  3. Emergency Fund applications can request up to $750 per year.
  4. Recipients are required to write a letter or email of thanks to the Educational Foundation, explaining how the grant will support their continued education and goals. Funds will not be released until the thank-you letter is received.
  5. Students may be required to complete a financial literacy course.
