Course Description:

The CVCC Pharmacy Technician Program is designed to teach students information, techniques, and procedures needed to assist the pharmacist in the delivery of pharmaceutical products and services. The main objective is to provide students with a working knowledge of most aspects of pharmacy in community and institutional practice settings.

Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.

This is an 80-hour class that will cover theory and in-class practice. Each student will be required to attend orientation at a Clinical Site and obtain 80 hours at the clinical site. An exam review session will be held following clinical rotations.

CVCC offers an optional pre-course covering the essentials of career readiness with SkillsUSA Career Essentials classes (personal, workplace, technical, leadership, and communication skills) in partnership with Adult Education of Central Virginia. Students will explore career paths, refine resumes, and prepare for career interviews.

CVCC offers a pre-course, The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) class, to train students to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. This class is specifically designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.

CVCC offers a pre-course, Medical Terminology Bootcamp, designed to assist students in learning medical language and basic structure and function of the human body.
