Being a successful student involves many components such as time mangagement, note taking and managing stress. Below are helpful recources for you to be successful.

  • Study Skills Assessment- Columbia Basin College has an online study skills assessment survey that you can take to see your areas of strength and areas you may need to strengthen.
  • Time Management- No one can "manage" time. All we can do is manage ourselves and how we spend our time. Developing time management skills is a way of learning the self discipline that allows you to move from, "I don't have enough time for anything," to, "I have enough time to do the things that matter the most."
  • Time Audit- See where your time goes by using this time audit sheet. Once you see where yout time goes you can make changes to better manage your time.
  • Note Taking-There are many good techniques for taking notes. Taking notes should be an active process that involves your complete attention both mental and physical. Whether you use the Cornell method, or index cards you are creating memory traces in your brain that help you learn.
  • Reading- Different subjects require an awareness of different types of content. The way you read a math textbook is not the same way you would read a psychology textbook. Check out these links for more tips on reading and memory
  • Memory and Learning Styles- Memory refers to the ability of our brains to store and retrieve information. When you learn different memory techniques, you improve your ability to remember what you see, hear, smell, and feel. The stronger our memory techniques the more successful our learning experiences will be.
