Mobile Advisor

My name is Michael Duncan and I am the Mobile Advisor at CVCC.  I was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia where I pursued both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. I understand that finishing a college degree can be difficult, and I am committed to assisting students as they navigate their experience at CVCC. When not working, I enjoy cooking, playing soccer, and spending time with my wife and dog. With an established background in academic advising, I look forward to continuing my work with CVCC students.

CVCC is excited to pilot a new text messaging service in order to help students complete their degree. Throughout the semester, participating students will receive text messages from a CVCC advisor, Michael Duncan, in order to help students select appropriate classes that will aid them in completing their program of study, provide friendly reminders of important dates and deadlines, and assist students in connecting to helpful campus resources.

Michael will respond personally and individually to messages and questions he receives from students. This is a great opportunity to get personalized advising at CVCC from the convenience of your phone!

Initial research conducted in partnership with UVA found that a mobile advising service increased the number of students that continued in college and graduated. If found successful, it will grow to serve more students in future terms. We look forward to serving participating students.
