Articulation Agreement
Between Averett University Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice
Central Virginia Community College - Administration of Justice Program

Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) and Averett University have entered into the following agreement in order to make the transfer process orderly and smooth for graduates of CVCC's Administration of Justice Program who wish to transfer to Averett University and earn a B.S. in Sociology/Criminal Justice.

Section 1:
  1. Upon receipt of a completed application and an official transcript, Averett University will guarantee automatic acceptance to students earning the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Administration of Justice from Central Virginia Community College with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. All coursework that was credited toward the associate's degree will be accepted and transferred to Averett University. The only exception is that Averett does not accept the grade of D in ENG 111or the equivalent.
  2. All Central Virginia Community College graduates will enter Averett University with Junior status and can expect to graduate with a baccalaureate degree after the successful completion of a minimum of 60 credits at Averett University. The block of transferred credit does not fulfill content areas for any major other than Sociology/Criminal Justice. To that end, students who drop out of the articulated program and who enter another program at Averett may have to complete more hours than indicated in this agreement.
  3. In addition to completing the requirements described above, a successful Central Virginia Community College applicant must present courses that satisfy Averett's general education requirements.
  4. Averett University will provide academic advising when requested for any student considering transfer to Averett University.
Section 2:
  1. All Central Virginia Community College graduates who transfer to Averett University are eligible for financial aid and scholarships on the same basis as any other Averett University student. Full-time Traditional students only are eligible for Institutional Merit Scholarships. CVCC students also are eligible for scholarships designated by Averett University especially for transfer students. Members of Phi Theta Kappa are automatically awarded a $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship once they are admitted to Averett University. Students are automatically considered for academic scholarships once they are granted admission to the University. No separate scholarship application is required. Some highlights of the Averett University transfer scholarship structure are shown in the table below:
Scholarship Name Amount Minimum Academic Requirements
Presidential Scholarship $12,000 3.4 or greater cumulative GPA
    Dean's Scholarship $11,000 3.0-3.39 cumulative GPA

Section 3:
  1. Any changes, additions, or deletions to this agreement shall be made only after consultation with and agreement among officials at both institutions.
  2. This agreement will remain in effect until terminated by either party upon written notice to the other party of an intention to terminate.
  3. The above provisions are mutually agreed to and shall go into effect when signed by the presidents of Central Virginia Community College and Averett University.
