Basic Rider Course (RVH 130)
The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is a complete entry-level, learn-to-ride class. This 15-hour class consists of classroom and on-motorcycle instruction. Riders will learn basic skills of motorcycle operation and safe riding strategies under controlled range condition. The BRC program provides motorcycles (none larger than 500 cc), helmets and textbook for each rider. In the classroom, students will learn about different type of motorcycles, layout and operation of the basic controls, and street strategies to avoid trouble and stay safe. This course is physically demanding, and students should be in good physical condition. Upon successful completion of the course, students are provided a Virginia license waiver to be taken to the Division of Motor Vehicles for endorsement purposes. Program requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license or learner’s permit
  • Sturdy shoes high enough to cover the ankle
  • Full fingered gloves
  • Long pants without holes in the legs (denim jeans are suggested).
  • Long sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or eyeglasses are suitable for range conditions)
  • At minimum a ¾ shell DOT approved helmet must be used while on the motorcycle range (no skull or half helmets permitted)
  • Students under 18 years of age must have parent’s signature on waiver forms
Students will not be permitted to ride if they do not meet program requirements.
