Pre-Allied Health Academic Pathway

Pre-Allied Health Academic Pathway

AWARD: Career Studies Certificate/AA&S
LENGTH: 1 Year

The Pre-Allied Health Career Studies Certificate (CSC) is designed to help prepare students for admission into allied health programs at CVCC and nursing programs at partner institutions, including Emergency Medical Services, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. Students enrolled in this CSC are not yet accepted into the Certificate or Degree programs listed but are completing their general education and prerequisite courses. While completing this CSC, students may submit an application into one of the allied health programs based on their interests. The allied health educational and career pathway provides a broad foundation of core skills, knowledge, and abilities for admission into allied health associate degree programs or employment as entry-level health care workers.

Individuals are eligible for admission to CVCC if they are high school graduates or the equivalent, or if they are eighteen years of age or older and able to benefit academically from study at the community college, as demonstrated by assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.

The Pre-Allied Health Career Studies Certificate consists of 18-20 credits and serves as a guide for preparing the student to enter an allied health program.  Students must check the catalog for specific program admission requirements in addition to the courses listed above. Completion of this certificate alone does not guarantee admission into a specific program.

The Pre-Allied Health Academic Pathway is a resource for students that lists the following items:

  •     the recommended order in which to take the program courses
  •     suggested course when more than one option exists
  •     which semester each course is typically offered
  •     if the course has a prerequisite
  •     courses that may lead to a certificate (if offered in the program)
