AWARD: Career Studies Certificate
LENGTH: 1 Year


This program is designed for the student who desires training in pharmacy technology to prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam or other exam approved by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.  Upon completion of the program and certification, the student may seek a career as a technician in pharmacies, insurance companies, and more.


Individuals are eligible for admission to CVCC if they are high school graduates or the equivalent, or if they are eighteen years of age or older and able to benefit academically from study at the community college, as demonstrated by assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Students enrolling in this program must have a completed background check. 


  • Access to a computer that meets or exceeds the PC Specifications for Non-Technical Programs.
  • All students expected to complete the requirements for a degree, diploma or certificate must complete an Application for Graduation.


The Program Pathway for Pharmacy Technology CSC is a resource for students that lists the following items:

  •     the recommended order in which to take the program courses
  •     suggested course when more than one option exists
  •     which semester each course is typically offered
  •     if the course has a prerequisite
  •     courses that may lead to a certificate (if offered in the program)
