Industry-recognized credentials are essential for Virginia’s workforce and economy.   Understanding this, Virginia has established two financial assistance programs for Virginia residents who are pursuing training in high-demand fields that lead to an industry-based certification of licensure

Workforce Credentials Grant

Qualifying is easyPie chart of tuition owed

  • If you meet the Virginia Residency Requirements, this grant is availble to you for any qualified program.

How it works: 

  1. You pay the first 1/3 of the class tuition when you register.
  2. The Commonwealth of Virginia pays 1/3 when you complete the class.
  3. The final 1/3 is paid by the Commonwealth of Virginia when you earn a high-demand industry credential.









Financial Aid for Non-credit Training leading to Industry Credentials (FANTIC)

Up to 90% of the program tuition may be covered by FANTIC.  However, FANTIC awardees who do not complete their FANTIC-paid program must agree to re-pay the amount received from FANTIC, plus an additional 1/3 of the program cost.

Income Guidelines to determine an applicant’s eligibility for FANTIC:

An applicant’s income must not exceed the above maximum income allowed as determined by the 2015 HUD Guidelines for Virginia.  (HUD Guidelines are subject to periodic change.)
