Ms. Crystal Jackson - CVCC Class of 2020

Crystal Jackson decided to attend CVCC in 2017 saying, “In 2017, my life took a huge turn, and I decided I was going to start classes, and nothing was going to stop me from earning my associate degree!”

Some of the reasons she decided on CVCC was reduced tuition cost and the flexibility to work a job while attending evening classes with the goal of transferring to a 4-year school after graduating. This year she completed her course work in education and was accepted to Columbia University. She wants to focus on political science, specifically in the areas of education policy and/or international relations.

About the CVCC faculty she comments, “My experience with the faculty and staff at CVCC was one of great support. My professors conducted rigorous classes which helped me to grow academically and prepared me for pursuance of a challenging Ivy League education. They made sure that we as students knew about tutoring and other resources on campus." She adds, "My college navigator, Brittney Cochrane, was super supportive and informative. She always took time to explain all of my options.”

For other students considering taking classes at CVCC she says, “I would tell anyone to go for it! You will be supported in every way. CVCC is on their game! They are keeping up with programs and learning styles which will prepare you for transferring or going into the workforce.”

To those who are already CVCC students she offers words of encouragement saying, “Do not give up, even if you have to take it slow. The main thing is to keep working toward your goal. Do not be afraid to ask for help. You can do this!”

As far as suggestions on how to improve things at the college she remarks, “Please keep doing what you are doing. The faculty and staff host many events to help build community. CVCC is a great place to start the pursuit of higher education!”

Well said Crystal. Congratulations on your success and welcome to the CVCC alumni family!
