LYNCHBURG, VA – For summer 2017, the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) Workforce Solutions Division is hosting 30 Summer Career Academies for area youth, ages 8-15.  These are specialized courses where students enjoy hands-on experiential learning and career exploration led by CVCC faculty and staff, with partnership arrangements with other local educational institutions including Liberty University, Lynchburg City Schools, and Campbell County Schools. 

The Summer Career Academy camps cover many interesting and fun learning areas including robots, engineering, culinary master chef, aviation, computer coding, advanced manufacturing, and many more. CVCC Summer Academy programs have also been added for the Bedford and Campbell county areas this year, and scholarships are available to families qualifying for financial support. 

“CVCC is thrilled to once again open our doors and share our talented faculty and staff with the youth in our community,” said Elizabeth Narehood, CVCC Workforce Development Coordinator. “This year, we will have expanded offerings even further with new career focuses and locations. We have several new camps in fascinating of interest such as energy technology, cybersecurity, automotive, and a new police camp.”
