CVCC Hires New Chief of Campus Police


LYNCHBURG, VA – Officials at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) have announced the hiring of William D. Wilkerson as its new Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety.

About his new job, Chief Wilkerson said, “I am grateful to be accepted into the CVCC community.  I intend to be a leader who serves and leads the way to a safer community.” He added, “I plan to create a police department that is integrated with the community, but is also able to perform its primary function in protecting the CVCC community.” 

Wilkerson has replaced CVCC’s previous Chief of Police, Russell Dove, who worked at CVCC from 2013 to 2020.

Prior to being hired at CVCC, Chief Wilkerson served as Chief of Police at Blue Ridge Community College from 2018 to 2021, and as a Community Police Officer at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2003 to 2018. 

Chief Wilkerson holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Sociology Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Exercise Science with graduate work in Kinesiology and Health Science.
